About Jason Bunch, Alaskan Registered Guide

My career as a Helicopter Rescue Swimmer with the United States Coast Guard brought my wife, Kim, and me to Kodiak Island in 1997. Stories of Mountain Goat, Brown Bear, and Sitka Black‑tailed Deer hunting—combined with the mystery and promise of Alaska’s wild country—made the decision to begin our life here an easy one.

The Coast Guard trained me in land and sea survival, backcountry safety, and mountain rescue. Those skills became the foundation for countless days spent in Alaska’s most remote terrain, giving me the experience and confidence to hunt sheep, caribou, moose, and black bear across the state. As much as I enjoyed those adventures, my heart always returned to Kodiak. Its rugged mountains, iconic goats, and legendary bears became my true passion.

In 2006, I began guiding and quickly realized that helping hunters achieve lifelong goals through my backcountry experience was exactly where God wanted me. Today, Kim and I are blessed with two sons—one now grown and in college, and the other fifteen—and we look forward to continuing to share this incredible island with them.

I’ve had the privilege of working for some of the most respected guides on Kodiak. Their mentorship shaped my work ethic and deepened my understanding of our industry, our wildlife, and the responsibility we carry as stewards of Alaska’s game resources. My commitment is to continue growing as a professional guide while honoring the standards set by those who came before me.

Kodiak, often called the Emerald Island, offers everything hunters imagine when they think of the Last Frontier: fair‑chase opportunity, breathtaking views, and remote, unforgiving country that demands respect. My family and I are proud to represent this island and look forward to sharing its challenges and rewards with you.

Thank you for taking the time to learn more about what we offer.
