Kodiak Island Mountain goat
Most of our hunts begin at saltwater, regardless of the access method used to reach the draw area. From there, we move into the mountains using a backpack‑style approach. We carry tents, sleeping bags, and all necessary supplies with us at all times. This mobile and flexible style allows us to adapt quickly to weather, goat movement, and terrain, and it is a major contributor to our long‑standing success.
A packer is included on all Mountain Goat hunts; however, hunters must still be prepared to carry approximately 35 to 40 pounds throughout the duration of the hunt. Physical readiness is essential for navigating Kodiak’s steep, rugged country.
Once your goat is harvested and removed from the field, we handle all trophy care. This includes fleshing, salting, and drying the hide, as well as proper care of horns and meat. After preparation, we will ship your trophy to the taxidermist or destination of your choice. If you’d like to take your meat home, a local processor can coordinate the processing and shipping to the destination of your choice.
Kodiak Mountain Goat hunts demand physical grit, mental toughness, and respect for the rugged terrain. They also provide breathtaking scenery, meaningful challenges, and an unforgettable hunting experience. Our goal is to guide you safely, professionally, and successfully through every step of your adventure.
Kodiak Mountain Goat hunting is one of the most challenging and rewarding experiences Alaska has to offer. Our hunts take place exclusively within designated draw areas. The draw application period runs from November 1 through December 15, and results are posted on February 15.
Your hunt begins the moment you arrive in Kodiak. Either Kim or I will meet you at the airport and assist you with anything needed before the hunt. We will stop at the local sporting goods store for any last‑minute gear and to purchase your license and locking tag. Afterward, we will review your equipment and discuss the key details of your upcoming hunt, then you will check into a local hotel.
